Risa Schulman

Ph.D

Risa Schulman, Ph.D. took her lifelong love of science, people and the fulfillment of potential to create a multifaceted career in R&D, business, health and wellness, and empowering individuals. 

Dr. Schulman is a functional food and dietary supplement expert, professional speaker and writer, and she consults corporations on health claim substantiation, product development and business strategy. She is also the founder of Tap-Root, a scientific consulting firm, and an advisor to Ubiquinol.org.

Overview of Career

Before starting her consulting practice, Dr. Schulman worked on the leadership teams of several industry icons, including POM Wonderful, Mars Botanical (a division of M&M Mars) and Solgar Vitamins (one patent awarded), where she played a key role in the launch of breakthrough categories and products.

Her experience includes working with prominent and pioneering food and dietary supplement companies and ingredient suppliers, as well as companies shifting into these spaces from other industries, including biotech and pharma. She also frequently collaborates with industry law firms.

She is on the editorial and planning board for New Hope Natural Media. Lastly, she is a Visiting Scientist at Rutgers University.

 

Education

Dr. Schulman holds a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from Rutgers University, a Master of Environmental Science from Yale University and a Bachelor of Science from Tufts University.
