Most people think of Ubiquinol as just another heart health supplement, but in reality, it’s so much more than that. Ubiquinol is the active, antioxidant form of CoQ10, which plays a key role in producing the cellular energy your organs need to maintain proper functioning. Ubiquinol is especially helpful in supporting the heart health of individuals over 40, and, as a powerful, lipid-soluble antioxidant, supports your overall health by helping protect cells and organs from free radical damage.

However, there are also plenty of myths circulating about Ubiquinol. Here at Kaneka, we want you to feel empowered in your heart health decisions, so we’ve debunked a few of these myths below. And because we’re big heart health fans, we’ve also thrown in a few fun facts about Ubiquinol to boot!

Ubiquinol Myth #1: I Heard That Ubiquinol Can Impact Sleep Quality.

Some folks think that because Ubiquinol promotes cellular energy in the body, this means that they’ll feel the effects of this energy in the same way that they would experience the rush from caffeine. This is not the case. Caffeine, sugar, and other stimulants work to stimulate your brain and nervous system to create a rush of energy, whereas Ubiquinol promotes and maintains energy production within your body at the cellular level. This means that while you may, over time, experience greater energy levels on the whole while taking Ubiquinol, you won’t feel an energy boost in the same way you would after drinking a cup of coffee in the morning.

Ubiquinol Myth #2: I Heard That If My Body Didn’t Naturally Create CoQ10, I’d Be Dead, So Ubiquinol Won’t Help Me.

It’s true that our bodies naturally produce CoQ10 and convert it to Ubiquinol, the antioxidant form. What a lot of people don’t realize is that these two forms of CoQ10 work in tandem to sustain our bodies—one is the conventional form (CoQ10), and one is the active antioxidant form (Ubiquinol). The process of transforming conventional CoQ10 into Ubiquinol is what provides cellular energy to our bodies. As we age, however, this process becomes less efficient, especially for adults over 40. In addition, during times of elevated oxidative stress or for those taking cholesterol-reducing statins, Ubiquinol in particular can become depleted and a Ubiquinol supplement can effectively replenish depleted levels in the blood and tissues.

Fun Fact: Some Ubiquinol softgels are orange and smell like citrus because they contain limonene, an orange peel extract that helps make the supplement more fat soluble.

Ubiquinol supplements help promote heart health and healthy aging, are more bioavailable and better absorbed than conventional CoQ10 supplements, and are the form of CoQ10 that directly functions as an antioxidant. Long story short, while your body does produce CoQ10 naturally on its own, the body must convert CoQ10 into Ubiquinol—a process that becomes less efficient as we age. This is why individuals over 40 and those taking a statin should consider taking a Ubiquinol supplement to support their heart, lungs, and other organs and help maintain optimal function.

Ubiquinol Myth #3: I Need a Prescription to Buy Ubiquinol, Right?

Wrong! Ubiquinol is an over-the-counter supplement, so you do not need a prescription to buy Ubiquinol. You can certainly consult with your doctor before deciding to take Ubiquinol, but they do not need to prescribe it for you. To find a Ubiquinol retailer, use the tool on our site, or shop at NewQ.com.

Fun Fact: In order to get the same amount of Ubiquinol that’s present in one 100mg softgel, you’d need to eat 60 avocados!
