SHOP NOWWhen it comes to aging, your genetics do play a role, but so do the lifestyle choices you make every single day. Yes, healthy aging is about lifestyle habits like eating well and moving more. But there’s a deeper layer that often gets overlooked: your cellular health.
September is Healthy Aging Month, and we’re helping you go beyond the surface on your aging journey. Healthy aging is about what’s happening inside your cells and the cellular CEOs (the mitochondria) that keep your body running. That’s why we created this 30-day healthy aging challenge: a week-by-week plan tied to cellular wellness, the real driver behind long-term wellness.
Each week focuses on one theme (nutrition, movement, recovery, and cellular protection) with a specific, achievable goal you can start right away. There are no intense protocols, no expensive tools, and no perfection required. Just focus on small, consistent habits that compound over time.
We’ve also created a downloadable PDF checklist so you can follow along, check off each task, and track your progress throughout the month. If you’re ready to power your cells, let’s get started.

If you want to understand healthy aging, you need to understand cellular energy. Your mitochondria produce ATP, the energy currency your body uses to function.
Two key players in this process are ubiquinone and ubiquinol, both of which you may have heard of before. CoQ10 exists in two forms: ubiquinone (the oxidized form) and ubiquinol (the active antioxidant form). Your body naturally converts ubiquinone into ubiquinol, and that conversion supports cellular energy production. As you age, especially after 40, that conversion process becomes less efficient.
When ubiquinol levels decline, cells become more susceptible to damage. Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals and the antioxidants that neutralize them. As an antioxidant, ubiquinol is foundational to neutralizing free radicals. Without enough ubiquinol to help keep free radicals in check, oxidative stress occurs and can contribute to cellular damage over time.
Aging is a natural part of life, but you can protect your cells from oxidative stress and cellular damage with smart lifestyle choices. That’s exactly what this challenge is designed to help you do.

This challenge is built around four weekly themes, each one stacking on the last:
The goal is commitment, not perfection. Show up for each week, do what you can, and let the habits build on each other. Looking for more ways to challenge yourself? Check out our Heart Healthy Challenge and our Personal Wellness Assessment to help you build the best version of yourself.
We all get busy, reach for a convenient processed snack, or crave late-night sweets from time to time. Yet, your diet is one of the lifestyle factors most within your control, and it’s one of the best ways to support your healthy aging journey. What you put on your plate fuels your body for long-term wellness and function, starting at the cellular level.
There’s no single perfect diet for healthy aging, and everyone’s needs are different. But research points to a few eating patterns with proven benefits for long-term health:
No matter which approach you take, the key is balancing whole grains, lean proteins, a variety of fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats.
Week 1 goal: Incorporate at least one of those elements into each meal, every day for a week. If you need inspiration, our Mediterranean Cookbook is packed with recipes that make this surprisingly easy to stick to. Explore more eating well tips and learn about eating antioxidants for cellular wellness.
Keep in mind that while ubiquinol does exist in food, many people find it difficult to get enough through diet alone, especially as the body’s ability to use it declines with age. That’s where smart supplementation comes in, and we’ll cover that in Week 4.

Living an active lifestyle does not mean running marathons or breaking records. It can be as simple as a daily walk, strength training a few times a week, or even dance classes with friends. The key is moving your body in ways that feel good and keep you engaged. Even small, consistent efforts like gardening or taking a walk with your dog can make a real difference in your overall health.
Regular movement supports healthy aging in a number of ways, and it goes beyond simply staying in shape. It also:
Week 2 goal: Carve out 30 minutes every day to move your body however you want. Make it a meditative time for yourself, multitask on a work call, or make it social with a friend.
Low-impact options like tai chi, swimming, and pilates are great starting points, and there are plenty of easy ways to add more exercise to your day without spending hours at the gym. Try these 11 yoga poses to boost strength and flexibility or these balance training exercises to improve stability.
Consistent quality sleep and stress management are active recovery time for your cells, which means they are essential to healthy aging. They’re just as important as eating well and moving your body because, without recovery, the other habits can’t do their job.
When you’re running on poor sleep and unchecked stress, your cellular energy reserves can get depleted. Prioritizing recovery habits like quality sleep, intentional breaks, and stress regulation all protect those reserves and give your cells the downtime they need to repair.
Week 3 goals (pick one or both):
In Week 1, we mentioned oxidative stress (when free radicals outnumber antioxidants, which can damage your cells over time). Antioxidants are like that cellular defense system, and ubiquinol is a key part of it.
You might not be able to see your cells, but the habits you build every day make a real impact from within. This week is about choosing one cellular health habit and committing to it for the days, weeks, and months ahead.
Week 4 goal: Pick one cellular health habit to start this week and commit to carrying it into next month. Examples:
No matter how you explore cellular and mitochondrial health, that knowledge will help you make consistent, informed choices about your health down the line.
If you made it through all four weeks, here’s what you built:
Starting a new habit can feel intimidating at first, but over time, it becomes part of your routine. That’s the real goal of this challenge: not 30 days of perfect habits, but a foundation you can build on this Healthy Aging Month and for years to come. Keep using the downloadable checklist to stay on track week to week, and revisit any theme whenever you need a reset.

CoQ10 exists in two forms: ubiquinone (the oxidized form) and ubiquinol (the active antioxidant form). Your body converts ubiquinone into ubiquinol to use it for cellular energy production and antioxidant protection. That conversion becomes less efficient as you age, which is why many adults over 40 choose to supplement directly with ubiquinol.
Yes. While genetics play a role, lifestyle choices — like what you eat, how you move, how well you sleep, and how you manage stress — all influence your cellular health. Supporting your mitochondria through daily habits and smart supplementation can help promote cellular energy and protect against oxidative stress.
There’s no single time to begin, but the earlier you build healthy habits, the more they compound over time. Your 20s and 30s are when you’re laying the foundation for how your cells will perform decades later. That said, it’s never too late to start.
Mitochondrial function naturally declines with age, and the body’s ability to convert CoQ10 to ubiquinol becomes less efficient, especially after 40. If you’re in your 40s or beyond — or if you’re on your preconception journey, taking statins, or going through menopausal stages — now is a great time to start supporting your mitochondria through both lifestyle habits and supplementation with Kaneka Ubiquinol®.
